Jim Litster has a long career in leadership of engineering research, teaching and management. He is Emeritus Professor of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Engineering The University of Sheffield and Honorary Professor at The University of Queensland and East China University of Science and Technology.

He was Head of Department at Sheffield from 2016-2021 and Interim Vice President and Head of Faculty of Engineering from 2021-2023. Prior to this, he spent 8.5 years as Professor of Chemical Engineering and Professor of Industrial and Physical Pharmacy at Purdue University. 

From 1987 to 2007, he spent 20 years in academic positions at The University of Queensland including Head of Chemical Engineering and Head of School of Engineering. His research area is Particulate Products and Processes and he is an international leading expert on wet granulation with over 35 years of experience in the field.  

Jim is passionate about university education and educators and has helped foster significant engineering education pedagogical developments at both UQ and Sheffield.  He has been elected a fellow of both the Royal Academy of Engineering and the Australian Academy of Applied Science and Engineering.
