The University’s policy for feedback on examination performance is available at the UQ website.
You should be provided with performance feedback that is timely, clear, specific and informative, including advice about how your performance can be improved. It is most appropriate that such advice is provided by the course coordinator immediately following completion of the assessment.
You can make a request to view your examination script for feedback on performance up to six months following the release of the final course results.
The Faculty recognises that after receiving feedback on performance, you may seek to have your performance reassessed. A request for a re-mark of a piece of assessment may occur following performance feedback because of dissatisfaction with the result. Resolution of this matter should follow the normal grievance processes established by the University.
A request for a remark submitted after results are finalised will only be considered for the final piece of assessment in a course if the student submits the request as follows:
i) for first semester results, by the first day after the second semester mid-semester recess;
ii) for second semester results, by the first day of first semester of the next year; and
iii) for summer semester results, by the first day after the first semester mid-semester recess.
Briefly, the steps for grievance resolution are:
- discussion with the course coordinator/lecturer to obtain feedback on performance;
- discussion between the student and relevant Head of School if the discussion with the course coordinator/lecturer was perceived to be unsatisfactory on the part of the student;
- referral to the Executive Dean if a satisfactory decision has not resulted. Please note that this does not automatically mean that a request for assessment re-marking will be granted. It will first be ascertained if marks given were consistent with the course profile or other criteria given to the student relating to that piece of assessment.
- appeal to the Senate Student Appeals Committee if the student disagrees with the Executive Dean’s decision on the grounds of improper conduct, discrimination or failure to give sufficient consideration to a matter of relevance.
Procedure for requesting a re-mark
- You should submit your application for assessment re-marking to the Faculty. Forms are available at the Faculty Academic Office.
- Your application cannot be considered in the absence of evidence of performance feedback.
- On receipt of your application, the Faculty will seek the recommendation of the Head of School.
- If your re-mark is approved by the Faculty, the School will be advised to make the necessary arrangements.
- You will be advised by the Faculty of the outcome of the re-mark.
