UQ is a national leader in architectural research.

At the School of Architecture our research strengths are indigenous culture, the history and theory of architecture and sustainable design.

We have three research centres and groups:

• Aboriginal Environments Research Centre (AERC)
• Architecture Theory Criticism History Research Group (ATCH)
• Centre for Sustainable Design (CSD)

Research conducted by the AERC, has changed commonly held beliefs about the nature of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander uses of space, showing the sophistication of Indigenous environments and how this affects current issues in today’s society.
