I am delighted to announce that Professor Maria Orlowska will be visiting the University to receive her Doctor of Science honoris causa. During her tenure at UQ (1990-2006), Maria made profound contributions to the growth, visibility and quality of the School of Computer Science and later School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering (ITEE).
Maria served as a board member on the Australian Research Council, Trustee of the very large Database Endowment, and Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science. However, her greatest impact can be felt through her students, many of whom hold positions of leadership in academia and industry both in Australia and overseas. Since leaving UQ, Maria has been serving as the Secretary of State at the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Poland.
Join us for light refreshments on Thursday 18th July to meet with Maria, hear about whats happening at your alma mater, and to continue connecting with like-minded UQ staff and graduates.
Please register your attendance by Monday 15th July. I look forward to meeting you in a few weeks for this informal and social occasion.
With best wishes,
Head, School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering
